Up-to-the-minute in every sense: the door hardware company FSB presents a new handle collection FSB 1289, authored by designers Michael Schmidt and Markus Michalski.

The user’s hand is caressed by well-proportioned curvature on the inside of the handle that makes for pleasant, ergonomically “soft” gripping.

A distinguished shape that reverberates through an extensive product collection: handles for standard and framed doors, for glass and sliding doors, for emergency exit doors conforming with EN179, as well as handles for windows and lifting/sliding systems. This range of handles is created in a mature production process with a sense of global responsibility. At the heart of the synergy between production processes and responsible use of resources is recyclable aluminium with a special allure from the Blasted Aluminium Black Anodised finish – an FSB original.

"I regard the approach to linearity as being significant from a design point of view. There are no straight or constructed lines. Neither are there any conventional radii. We operated with curves throughout. Curves engender momentum, whereas lines are static. Transcending the rigidly linear was essentially what we were after. We envisioned exploiting the depth of craftsmanship afforded by FSB’s production facilities to the full to this end. What you first see when beholding the handle is its lean, pared-down shape, but upon taking hold of it with your hand, it is found to be satisfyingly bulky at the back, a fact most conducive to ergonomic operation. We were intent on coming up with a design that is not loud and yet contains many points of fine detail that become apparent either upon closer inspection or when the handle is taken hold of and operated." /Markus Michalski on the creation of FSB 1289.

The designers reveal that the greatest challenge in their creative work is finding a formal thread and a coherent design that works well in every type of handle. FSB handles are seldom solo, but rather entire series of products. This makes it necessary to come up with an idea capable of manifesting itself fully throughout the range so that customers can find a homogeneous solution for every area of application: from doors and windows to more complex areas such as glass doors and lifting/sliding systems. The innovative sliding door handle series 42 4260 - 42 4265, a precursing creation of the designer duo, fits in harmoniously and adds sliding door options to the FSB 1289 handle collection.
